Working Man (Performed by George Donaldson)

It's a Working Man I am,
And I've been down underground,,
And I swear to God if I ever see the sun,
Or for any length of time,
I can hold it in my mind,,
I never again will go down underground.

At the age of sixteen years,
Oh he quarrels with his peers,
Who vowed they'd never see another one,
In the dark recess of the mine,
Where you age before your time,
And the coal dust lies heavy on your lungs.

It's a Working Man I am,,
And I've been down underground,
And I swear to God, if I ever see the sun,
Or for any length of time,
I can hold it in my mind,
I never again will go down underground.

At the age of sixty-four,
He will greet you at the door,
And he will gently lead you by the arm
Through the dark recess of the mine,
He will take you back in time,
And he'll tell you of the hardships that were had.

It's a Working Man I am,
And I've been down underground,
And I swear to God if I ever see the sun,
Or for any length of time,
I can hold it in my mind,
And never again will go down underground.
Lord, I never again will go down underground.

Great song. Absolutely

Great song. Absolutely showcases George's vocals. He has the clearest, purest voice ever! It's my favorite song on the new CD!

Being from Cape Breton,Nova

Being from Cape Breton,Nova Scotia , where the writer of this song (Rita MacNeil) hails from, this song has very special meaning for me and if I may say for all Cape Bretoners. It's sort of a non-official anthem here My grandads were both coalminers as was my dad for a short time. To have CT sing this song and sing it so well, means so much to us.
When the first note was struck at the concert in Sydney,Cape Breton, the whole crowd stood and applauded. I think this surprised George, by the look on his face! Then when the rest of the lads came out on stage, again another standing of the crowd and applause. This really surprised them, espeically Damian,(he was smiling.laughing and shaking his head)
When the song was over another standing ovation. Ryan said in an interview How surprised they were at the crowds reaction to this song!
Ah, Ryan we just wanted to show you guys how much this song meant to us and what an awesome rendition you did of this very special song!! Wonderful job guys!!! Thanks so much for doing it
