When You Wish Upon a Star (Performed by Neil Byrne)

When you wish upon a star
Makes no difference who you are
Anything your heart desires
Will come to you

If your heart is in your dream
No request is too extreme
When you wish upon a star
As dreamers do

Fate is kind
She brings to those who love
The sweet fulfillment of
Their secret longing

Like a bolt out of the blue
Fate steps in and pulls you through
When you wish upon a star
Your dreams come true

Fate is kind
She brings to those who love
The sweet fulfillment of
Their secret longing

When you wish upon a star
It makes no difference who you are
Anything your heart desires
Will come to you

May all your dreams come true.

Neil

We have hasted this Neil thing out when he was first moved up to lead so let it rest. Not everyone likes the same type of voice but no reason to not be nice to others and thier likes and dislikes. We comment on here to share with others in conversation not to hurt any of them. No one is nuts we all like something different that is why we all have a different favorite such as I love Ryan, George, Paul and Damian just my choice not nuts just to my favorites.

Remember we are all here for all of CT. and we are all thunderheads so le'st play nice and let the thunder roll for everyone not just the ones you agree with

I agree with you re Neil.I feel the word awesome is overused for him. I'm trying to keep an open mind of Neil's singing. In Heritage he sings a lovely celtic song. However, on the Christmas cd/dvd I feel he is given too much time compared to the other lads. Neil has a "sweet, nice voice", but it does absoultely nothing for me. Tried listening to his ep songs i.e. Sadie - could not get thru it. Sorry, not trying to be mean, but the voice needs something, I don't know what. So, I will always love Keith,Paul,Ryan,Damian & George, and hope Neil will only participate in some not all songs. I'll hear a lot of flack from Neil fans, that's o.k. But remember, we all have our own taste, but WE ALL LOVE CELTIC THUNDER. Ellie

I agree, I'm over the edge too. He Should be front and center, (even though he has been there since the beginning, guitar, Backing vocals, drums, mandolin ect.)
he has been in there all along Wink
Some just didn't notice it.

1st song is called- "Sadie Jones & I"
2nd song is called- "Raoul & Her Ladyship"
3rd song is called- "Truador"
4th song is called- "Cherish"

These are All great songs & I thought I would let you folks know how Great the EP is.
I love all these songs but my new faves are, the 1st & 2nd ones and I have loved 'Truador' since he put it on his Myspace.
I think Neil is a very good & well accomplished song writer.

Hope some of you's will help support Neil and buy his new Ep Wink
For those who may already have it, I would like to hear what Y'all think.

have to defend Neil even though I do not prefer him as a lead singer . His voice does blend well with ryan and Keiths the songs they did togther were awesome I just do not care for him as solo lead singer and never have QVC just confirmed it for me with the Christmas song he sand with the lads as his back up sorry Neil fans but I have my opion as well.

Neil

I like Neil's voice on It's Beginning to Look Like Christmas, and I think he did a good job on the Hallelujah. I also understand how he became the 6th singer of the group. He is not one of the lads I will follow after CT, however. Not interested in rock music (also Keith will fall by the wayside, the one I loved the most at the beginning).

But I do like Neil's guitar playing. He is so good on things like Recuerdo Me, Brothers in Arms, and the Local Hero set. As a singer, I like him best as a guitar player, and back-up singer.

But, Sharon and Phil are giving him the extra attention he needs to go on from CT eventually, and I have no argument with them. I hope him the best on his own, eventually.

Carol

PS: Hey, Joan, hope you are doing well. It has been a very sad couple of months for you.

Weird Analogy's?

I don't know how many of you do this, but... we here in the South do it ALL the time.
When you have a nice glass of sweet tea...& you squeeze a lemon in it, it freshens it up, doesn't it?

Now, Neil(lemon)+The 5 other guys(tea) equals SWEET tea with fresh squeezed NEIL FLAVOR!!
Neil freshens the group sound up!... I think, anyways. Wink

I do in some ways agree Carol, On the Christmas stuff Neil ROCKED!!And he really knows how to pick a guitar, I only WISH I could play like him. I'm sorry you would not follow him through though. His style of music I would NOT consider to be Rock, but,... lite pop, maybe.

Don't mean to keep on but, I just HAD to add that in there.
Thanks AGAIN, LOL! Laughing out loud

Thanks & hello AGAIN

I have just Now seen your other coments in here JOAN, (I'm slow, I know) LOL
but I really agree with you,
Let us think for a moment... hum......Now, what if Neil HAD been one of the original 5 guys & say Keith was lead guitarist & back-up vocalist, and he had the chance to come up as a soloist, how well would He be received.
Would he be well received because he's hot or not, or because he's good at what he does, or would he be like Neil, not well received by some at all?

How would these peeps feel if someone came in here dissing one of the other 5 lads, well let me just tell you, you better get ready to duck, cause defending comments would be coming in from everywhere, including from me. No one would stand for it, if that happened.

WE'VE GOT YOUR BACK, NEIL!!!

Neil

Well, Kristin, you never can tell. I change my mind from time to time. Neil is one of my friends on MySpace, and I have no inclination to take him out, any more than I do Keith. I am always open to listening to all music, and changing my mind if I have a reason to.

While I prefer Celtic, classical, folk and bluegrass, I was also a big fan of the old 60s rock, and some of the 70s disco. Even liked Love Hurts from Nazareth, a metal band, though I didn't like metal. Still don't, or punk, or grunge, or hip-hop/rap. Call me old, call me set in my ways.

But I do write a music blog, and I am not always going to leave out people I have liked in the past. I just wish Keith would do the Celtic music - he does it so well. Of course, it doesn't sell like rock, and perhaps I should consider the difference between rock and pop, and on your say-so, I'll give Neil a bit more time post-CT, just to make sure I'm not doing him an injustice. Same with Keith, just to see if anything changes later.

On the other hand, I will probably buy at least one CD from each of the lads, no matter what they sing, just to have them. But Paul and Ryan, probably George, and possibly Damian, will certainly continue in the sounds I like to hear for them.

Carol

I understand

I know about the changing your mind thing, I do it often enough.
I do prefer-Celtic/Folk, Classical, Country, & the best.. 60's & 70's music (the MONKEES are awesome!!)
I don't do Metal, Punk,Grunge, or HipHop/Rap either(expecially)did I spell that right? 'Rap'!
But I do give 'Some' of it a chance, not much though. I dissgust it( I don't think I spelled that right either) LOL

And I will probally do the same with the other guys and their music as well Smile

Enjoyed reading that, (I hope I did not offend you) Laughing out loud
Thanks for responding Wink

And you, Joan

You will always remain my good friend, if for no reason other than we shared a friendship with Nancy.

When you have friends who are not personal friends, just because you both like a certain musical group, it is a friendship built along flimsy lines - if the group goes, does the friendship go.

But with you, and there are a few others I've met here, I don't think so. I believe that because we do/did have a friend in common, and she will always remain somewhat in our hearts, that a friendship has something to build on.

I do hope that if this site ever goes away, you and I will find other common ground to continue to talk on. Perhaps if you are on myspace or facebook, or maybe a Ryan page?

I'm thinking of you sweetie, never forget that.

Carol

Neil

I don't want to offend anyone here, but in my opinion, I don't think Neil should be a prominent part of the group.. just not too fond of his voice. He should just stick to the guitar..... Anyone agree?

I don't agree with u one bit. I don't understand how anyone can say Neil's voice isn't good. He has the most beautiful, pure voice I have ever heard. Maybe u should listen to his songs a little more. I only had to hear, When You Wish Upon A Star once to know that he is awesome.

Neil as a soloist

I have to say that I disagree also.
I know that this has been talked about a lot, but I am so glad that Neil has been brought up as a solo artist. I love him as a guitarist and a back up singer, he does a great job. But Neil has a lot to offer as a soloist also. I don't think that "Wish Upon A Star" was the best choice for his first solo, but I think that if he can sing that song and pull it off so well that he can sing anything and should be given the chance. I was very excited to see him on the lead of some of the Christmas songs performed on QVC. It made my week Smile I hope that he has some solo opportunities in 'Storm' and 'Heritage'.
Neil has an awesome voice. I love that it IS different from the other guys. It adds a new dimension to the great harmony that makes CT awesome. Take "Hallelujah" for example. The combination of voices ( Neil, Ryan, and Keith ) are chilling.
I am also looking forward to his own solo EP that is being released soon. It may not be traditional Celtic songs, but I love the songs he writes and his style of music.

Thanks,

Agree about Neil

To me Neil has a pleasant voice & plays a mean guitar. However, I don't feel his voice brings anything new to the lads. I don't mind if he sings a song now and then, but I will always see the lads as 5 + 1. Sorry, I guess we can all agree to disagree, and we all have our own taste in singers.

I STRONGLY! Dissagree

I do NOT Agree with this at ALL. I think Neil is AWESOME, he has talents unheard of and should NOT be "stuck" behind a guitar(even though he does very much enjoy playing) I think Neil has a Beautiful voice & NO it IS NOT the 'Same' as the other guys. Neil is really good and I am SOOO glad that he gets to show us more than his guitar playing abilities. It kinda upset me that he was being brought up as a solo artist and NOT given more to do than " When You Wish" on the cd,... and the 1/3 he did on "Hallelujah" I also think he might not agree either. He has great talents that the WHOLE world needs to know about!!!
I hope that he has some MORE Big smile songs on STORM & Heritage as well as any other CD's that CT does!

Thanks for MY opinion opportunity, I'm sure you will hear from me again! Wink

hot4harkin

as said we have gone round and round on this when it first happened but I still have to say I agree I do not feel or think he is to the lads calibur but love him as back up and drummer. Also think he needs to get a cleaner look if he is going to be up front. Was upset he was the lead singer on the christmas song I saw on QVC it felt like he was the star and the lads were the back up. Understand he has the higher voice our Damian has out grown but they could pick songs were that high voice is not the lead if they even need him. Just my opion stated again

__________________

A cleaner look for Neil?

What do you mean that he needs a "cleaner look"?
Since "Take Me Home" he has cut his hair...he wears it completely different now.
And since this spring he has taken out his piercings. He was not wearing them on QVC this week.

It is just my opinion, but I think he has changed alot in the past year.
Although, I have to say that I really didn't mind his long hair and piercings Wink That was the Neil that I I grew to love from the first dvd (guitars and all Wink )

clean up

I guess as old as I am hair on the chin doesn't reflect a clean look as the rest of the lads have sorry just my opnion and I guess that it doesn't reflect on how great he is it reflects on appearance on DVD and on TV sorry

__________________

Joan Sailnsave2

I for one am glad he doesn't

I for one am glad he doesn't look like the rest. Remember this 'ain't no boy band' and I don't think they all have to look 'clean', besides Neil's look appeals to many. So he isn't your cup of tea, that is fine you can continue to gaze on the other five while Neil brings in a whole new batch of fans to hear Celtic Thunder shows.

I agree with you. They don't need to look the same. I think that their individual looks brings out their personalities on stage and in their music.
As I stated before, I am one of those who Neil's look appeals to ( his long hair, piercings, and facial hair ), not that I don't like his new look also. But I don't think that he should have to change it unless he wants to.

I also agree with you, Joan, that we are very lucky to be able to voice our opinions freely on the forum.

Agreed

I come on here nearly every day, but don't really comment much. I'm much more of a listener! Smile I sort of stumbled into this topic and well thought I should share my two bits about Neil! First off, I can't agree more with you Love CT in GA! Keith was always my favorite, but not until Neil became more upfront did I change my mind. Don't get me wrong, I really love all the CT members. They are all great performers and easy on the eyes. But when Neil sang When You Wish Upon a Star and Hallelujah. It just blew my mind! He's a great singer and amazing guitarist and lets just say that his not so "clean" looks are appealing to me. Smile

Neil fans

Thanks, westchelsealife.
It is great to know that there are Neil fans everywhere. I agree, Neil had me from "Hallelujah". Hehe Smile Although, I have loved him since the first twang of his guitar in "The Show".

If you have not yet, check out his new website: www.neilbyrnemusic.com
His solo music is just as good as his work with CT. He puts his whole heart into everything.

See you maybe on tour some where bye let the thunder roll. P.S. I do think he blends his voice well with Keith and Ryan love thier song together one of my favorites

That's Right !!

I agree with ALL of Neil's defending comments above, but I want to say (and don't mean to offend anyone by it) but...he cut his hair & got rid of his piercings, what more do you want?
I can't wait for his EP & to hear his leads in "Lagan Love" as well. I think he brings alot to the group & should not be stuck in the back and forgot about Wink

I thank you, Joan for what you said about how we can have our opinions and share them too. FREEDOM is a great thing(especially as I think about what happened in New York, can you believe it? 9yrs ago today)

Thanks also to Hobbyt & Everyone else for their comments.
We LOVE this site & this group!!

I totally agree with you! He does not blend with the rest of the guys, and i also think that he should stick in the background.

Neils voice suits this song

Neils voice suits this song well, he has the perfect voice for this classic.

When you wish upon a star and Neil

I keep playing IE over and over again in my CD player. I like Neils voice. But I have to agree with some of the others here on the Forum that Disney's When You Wish Upon A Star was not the best choice for Neil's first CT solo. I happen to be a Big Fan of Disney Songs, and I think maybe a better choice of the Lads to do this song may have been either George or Damian. I hope in the future they do a better job of finding a match for Neil's voice. We have to remember that IE is the first time Neil has been put in the same Spotlight as Our Lads. Well that's my story and I am sticking to it!

i think Neil sounded great. he did a wonderful job. i was a little iffy about hearing Neil before, but i'm glad he sang this. i agree with cakey93 "NEIL + DISNEY = WINNNN!!!!!!!!"

__________________

I'm like Tang... I've never

I'm like Tang... I've never much cared for this song. I was a little disappointed to hear that Neil would be singing it.

But I *love* it. It's not the first song that I've not much cared for, and CT has made me love it (or at least their version).

I would also like to hear Neil do some more contemporary stuff. We need a thread about what we want to hear him sing, like the other lads have.

In my next life, I want to be Neil's guitar.

I should add...

I'm not really disagreeing with ya'll on this.... I especially like what Michele said about how if a song doesn't "match", it really says a lot about the performer when it sounds good.

Neil's voice just .. connects to my heart in some way. I really hope we hear more and more from him.

In my next life, I want to be Neil's guitar.

Love Neil

As much as I love, love, love Neil, I was a little disappointed in this song choice for him - I would have preferred to hear him sing something a little more current, like the solos that the others guys had. He does sing it well, though, I'll give him that. Smile

Current? "Hard To Say I'm

Current? "Hard To Say I'm Sorry" was made popular by Chicago in 1982.

Pinoccio

Yes, you're right, that one is quite old - but "When you Wish" is from the 40's. I guess I just meant I'd like to hear him sing something a little "cooler" - not from a Disney movie - Just my opinion, but don't get me wrong, I think Neil did the song justice, just like to hear him sing something else is all. Smile

I also agree with this. Neil

I also agree with this. Neil does a lovely job, but something just doesn't sit right with this song.

Agreed

Neil does do a great job with the song but it just doesn't seem to be "Neil." I don't know how to explain it but he has a more soulful voice and I would love to hear something more current from him; maybe one of his own songs that he has written and composed. Don't get me wrong, his version of When You Wish... is absolutely beautiful but not sure it's a good match for him.

I also think of it this way. If a performer is matched with a song that isn't a good match and sings it as well as Neil, then there is something special there with his talent. I do believe that the man could sing just about anything and perform it very well.

Michelle

Wish Upon a Star

I agree. Neil has a beautiful voice but this song has been done soooo many times by soooo many people. It's tired or maybe I'm just tired of hearing it.
